I find this to be a very good translation, into modern English. It is very intense, and filled with violence as well, so if that isn't your thing, then this is the wrong book. It was one of the great enterprises of his life, and he supplied it with elaborate notes including relevant passages from Horace, Virgil, etc., which he gives in both the Latin and in his own versions.
