Back before Rheya was staked, she wanted Gaius to kill the Sons of Ares village, Gaius refused to kill innocent and children, but Rheya got mad and grabbed his soul, the kindness, the rational side of Gaius and turned him into a soldier, just like Gaius brainwashed Adrian but worse. But now with the latest reveal, turns out it’s Rheya who’s been the Big Bad from the very beginning who has always preyed on his feelings for her and desperate need to be loved (which was likely why he even saved her in the beginning) and basically mindfucked him into doing her bidding. I've played these 2 books over 35 times and if I'm trying to be objective I would say the scenes that seem important to the backstory and character development or at least will make you understand it better are: the files (BB2.9 - 12) and notes (BB2.2 - 12) in BB2 give a LOT of information, maybe the ones with Adrian and Kamilah in BB1.9 (20 each), BB2.7 Jax (18) be aware that this will make the relationship romantic, meaning it'll prompt romantic interactions with him later that you can't avoid, BB2.8 Serafine (12) if you like her and that part of the story intrigues you, BB2.11 Adrian (16) adds to the backstory too, I think you can keep the relationship platonic but I haven't tested it yet, BB2.12 Adrian, Kamilah (20 each) very emotional, BB2.13 Adrian and Kamilah (20) not just backstory, gives nuance to the ongoing conflict (includes the conversation I had in mind when talking about providing depth), BB2.14 Jax (19) if you go with him at the end, Lily is a bit different from the other LIs because she doesn't have much history but if you wanna know more about her and what's on her mind about what's happening I suggest her BB1.3, BB1.6, BB2.1 (inevitably romantic), BB2.15 (inevitably romantic), the ones that decide a characters fate (BB1.15 - 18, BB2.4 - 18, BB2.6 - 18, BB2.6 - 19 the one with Kamilah I mentioned before which also lets you get to know a bit more about her past, BB2.14 - 18, BB2.16 - 20, and I'm not sure how important the BB1.13 one will be...), also, I don't find any of the outfits worth it, 3 are said to give you an edge (BB1.14, BB2.1, and BB2.12) but you're more than fine without them, the rest depends on how much you like an LI and wanna spend time with them but the last 30-diamond scenes of BB1.16 have some significance, the one you take will be considered a bit more important, there's also a non-diamond choice in BB2.16 that warns you to choose wisely from the LIs and we've yet to see what it actually meant but I suspect it'll be important.

I didn't spend any diamonds on BB in my first play and I thought it was an OK book, then recently I replayed it with almost all diamond options (except the ones with only Lily..) and this time I absolutely loved it. I feel like it would have made for an even stronger arc if Rheya was actually successful in using his feelings for her to manipulate him into committing that first massacre, and over time he gradually got desensitized to the violence and truly believed it was for the greater good. The book seems really interesting but I’m not sure if I should use diamonds or not? share.
