Came here for my first pantomime show. The seating arrangments has three levels I think but obviously the third level is the worst seats, would not recommend them to anyone as you will be literally be looking right on top of performances meaning you will be stearing literally at their foreheads.
Most of the cast were very good, in particular Dick, Alice, the cat (how he managed to crawl around for 2 and a half hours and still seem light on his feet goodness knows!) This is a fantastic building and if you haven't managed to visit yet you need to get yourself along. No cask beer. This was our second visit to a panto at the Empire and was even better than the last.A lovely building with friendly staff and a bar in the stalls area (nice touch) The panto is very proffessional without losing the 'common touch'. Came here tonight for the "Young kings of comedy" show, and I laughed my ass off. The Hackney Empire was built in 1901 as a music hall, and is a Grade II listed building. I've been lucky enough to see both music and comedy here and the acoustics were fantastic for both.
Not pretentious contemporary art galleries, or places where 'actors' get together and practise Faust, Hackney Empire harks back to Britain of old, where the theatre meant escapism, vaudeville and quality family time. DSC_5157.JPG.
They do a great variety of shows with a fairly high turnover, so if you keep an eye on whats coming up there is bound to be something you'll enjoy. Find more Music Venues near Hackney Empire, Find more Performing Arts near Hackney Empire.

The cast are obviously enjoying themselves as much as the audience and develop a fabulous rapport. The venue itself is really beautiful. Copyright © 2004–2020 Yelp Inc. Yelp, , and related marks are registered trademarks of Yelp. Join CAMRA | The interior has been returned to it's former glory, it's lovely and seats were deceptively comfortable.
Although the show was great, and one of the prettiest I have seen in a long time and to be honest it would be unfair of me to give bad feedback because of this one time experience. Add regular beers, Updated on 05/07/2020 We were sat right in the middle section, great seats with a good view of the stage. Branch responsible is East London & City. This is an amzingly suprising theatre. There are concessions for students and under 26 so its worth having a look in advance to get cheap tickets. It's draped in red and gold and the stage and sound are absolutely superb.I really love this venue, shame it's in Hackney but, still, a great place for comedy and music... By far the most exciting building in Hackney Central. There is a bar at the back of the stalls and good ladies toilet facilities.
Anytime i pass here, there's always hoards of people waiting outside to be let in. Not bad for £19.50 ea!Being a panto, there were several kids in the audience but the whole production is very family friendly.
I go to theatres in central London once or twice a month and wasn't expecting to pay £3.70 for a J2O.
A genuine pillar of Hackney, there is something so heart warming about a place that has a local platform for the arts. DSC_5154.JPG. It has 3 balconies and the stalls, and is stunningly done up.

Nice costumes and stage changes, very similar to a West End musical! We sat on the Upper Circle seats.
Jack Haynes Janvier 4, 2015. No cask beer. It's a play based on three really good friends who live together and have their issues mainly with relationships. The range of entertainment on offer through the year is varied and interesting, but I particularly appreciate the chance to see opera at a price I can afford.
I think the Hackney Empire does a great job and is definitely worth going for a visit..even to check out the other events there during the rest of the year. That is the most beautiful curtain I have ever seen! Hackney Empire is a great theatre, in comparison to other theatres I have been to, its probably in my top three. The National Beer Scoring System has been upgraded and is now fully integrated with whatpub.com, making finding a pub and scoring your beers much easier. NOTICE: As venues recover following the coronavirus lockdown period they need your support more than ever. I love that the bar is in the stalls, and that you can enjoy the performance at a table should you so wish. The Hackney Empire was built as a music hall in 1901, on Mare Street in Hackney. The Hackney Empire is in my opinion one of the best live music venues in East London. I'm really not a fan of Hackney at all.
Licensee Login. Hadn't been before but was looking forward to visiting such an iconic building.
With a Wetherspoons opposite it seems a bit silly to be charging such prices. No beers listed I am also a regular West End theatre go'er so can be critical of smaller theatres but definately not in the case of the Empire.
All pages, their contents and related items are provided "as is". Unfortunately I've never seen anything that I really enjoyed here.
In my 6/7 years in London town I've visited Hackney three times and unless there is a good reason, I'm not interested in visiting this borough at all.
Good luck on tour!
Recommended if there's a good act on.
I do not at all say that all shows will be the same, however strongly recommend that Empire is avoided when children shows are on as it is not built to be utilised in that way. They have lost a star, as I just couldn't get comfortable in my seat, but I'm sure if I was further down and not leaning for the view it would have been fine. A packed house, stunning restoration, friendly staff, great bar and some fantastic shows. I do recommend it for the ladies.
Beautiful, beautiful venue.
This caused major distraction and ruined our evening at the Empire.
So what Angie Lemar did is show everything from the mens perspective. Review tags are currently only available for English language reviews. It has 3 balconies and the stalls, and is stunningly done up. Easy access to bathrooms - which are not the Ritz but they do the job.
A genuine pillar of Hackney, there is something so heart warming about a place that has a local platform for the arts. and King Rat was brilliant.
We were in the upper tiers (damn long queue) and the decor was fab, the stage was fantastic, the staff made the event run smoothly, and my life, that curtain! I'd say it beats the Brixton Academy! The stage is a decent size as well and so is the theatre its self. 2 other reviews that are not currently recommended. DSC_5170.JPG.
It would be hard to miss it as the 'Hackney Empire' sign is erected on the side of the building, standing out like Hackney's saw thumb.Hosting a variety of events from such fields as music, dance, comedy and family entertainment, it is sure to have something for everyone. Very enjoyable. read more, ENO production of the old favourite Cossi was truly fantastic!!
In the 1980's the building was threatened with demolition and was rescued by a theatre group.

Panto, Opera, Gilbert & Sullivan. To start scoring please login below or join CAMRA on the national website. Its a shame because i really want to like the Empire.
I loved it.
The sloping stage means that even if you are in the standing area you don't miss anything that is happening on the stage and you get the best view of looking up at the ceiling which is one of the decorative highlights. The Hackney Empire is such an amazing place, the theatre is beautiful, high standing amphitheatre, royal boxes, golds and reds ever so extravagant looking.
By far the most exciting building in Hackney Central. Facebook. Firstly the venue is really nice, right in the heart of Hackney, next door to the Hackney Town Hall.
Anyway Hackney empire gets 4 stars from me it is definately one of Hackneys Gems. Still plenty of dance, music, theatre and concert events to choose from throughout the year. They don't have a car park but have an arrangement with Tesco just across the road.
Dick Whittington and his cat.
The Brothers is a great play written and directed by Angie Lemar ex dj from choice fm.
It was terribly long though, the first 'half' was an hour and a half long, the second 'half' just 40mins ish.
